Privacy policy

Draft, pending owner review. Not legal advice.

In short: Open Tutor collects your email only if you join the early-access list, uses it only to tell you when lessons open, does not sell it or use it for advertising, sets no cookies, and deletes it when you ask.

Who is responsible for your data?

The controller of your personal data is the operator of Open Tutor. The operator's legal name and postal address will be published on this page before any email is sent to the early-access list. Until then, you can reach us at hello@opentutor.tech about anything in this policy.

What data does Open Tutor collect?

Open Tutor collects personal data only when you join the early-access list. We store:

  • your email address;
  • the tracks you picked, if any;
  • the language version of the site you signed up from;
  • the date and time you signed up;
  • the version of the consent text you agreed to.

To stop spam, the sign-up form also uses your IP address to limit repeated submissions. Your IP address is never stored as is. The form records an empty marker under a keyed hash of it, which cannot be turned back into the address. Markers are deleted once they are 10 minutes old, the next time anyone uses the form, and are never saved with your sign-up.

Browsing the site without signing up does not create a record about you. Open Tutor runs no analytics. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, time and page requested) for security and reliability, for a short period set by the provider.

Does Open Tutor use cookies?

No. Open Tutor sets no cookies and loads no third-party trackers. If you choose a language in the language switcher, that choice is kept in the page address, not in a cookie, unless you agree to a cookie for it.

We use your email address to tell you when Open Tutor lessons open, and for nothing else. The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you give by ticking the box on the sign-up form. You can withdraw consent at any time; withdrawing does not affect anything we did before.

We use IP addresses for rate limiting on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the list free of spam and abuse (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Who processes your data for Open Tutor?

Your data is stored with service providers that act on our instructions and may not use it for their own purposes:

| Provider | What for | Where | |---|---|---| | Vercel Inc. | Website hosting and delivery; the sign-up form runs in Vercel's Frankfurt region | Frankfurt, Germany, for sign-ups; pages are delivered from Vercel's global network | | Vercel Inc. (Vercel Blob, a private store) | Storing the early-access list | Frankfurt, Germany |

No email provider has been chosen yet, and no email has been sent. The provider that sends the opening announcement, and where it processes data, will be added to this table before any email is sent.

Where a provider processes data outside the European Economic Area, the transfer must be covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision. The safeguard for each provider will be named on this page before any email is sent.

We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it to profile you.

How long does Open Tutor keep your data?

We keep your sign-up until you ask us to delete it or the platform opens, whichever is first, and no longer than 24 months. Then it is deleted.

What are your rights?

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • access the data we hold about you and get a copy;
  • correct it if it is wrong;
  • delete it;
  • withdraw consent at any time;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interest;
  • restrict processing in some cases;
  • take your data with you in a common format (portability).

To use any of these, email hello@opentutor.tech from the address you signed up with. We reply within one month. Every email we send also has an unsubscribe link.

You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the EU country where you live or work. The lead supervisory authority will be named here together with the operator's details.

Is Open Tutor for children?

The early-access list is for people aged 16 or over. The form does not check your age, so if you are under 16, please do not sign up.

How will Open Tutor tell me about changes to this policy?

We will update the date at the top of this page and, if the change affects how we use your email, tell you by email before it takes effect.
